TOTEM Association OF Educational Support Personnel, Inc., APEA/AFT

PSP Program

The PSP is governed by the National Association of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP) to encourage professional growth of educational support staff.  The certificates are based on five areas: experience, education, evaluation, in-service, and professional activity.  You must complete requirements in all five areas and must be a member of NAEOP to apply. Certificate awards include a 2%, 4%, 6%, and 7% pay increase per the negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement, Section 507.1. In order to be eligible for a PSP Certificate, you must first attend a PSP Workshop. Forms are available in a Microsoft Word format or a PDF version below.

The NAEOP postmark deadlines for the PSP applications are January 15th, May 15th and September 15th. If you have any questions you may email Amey Tamagni at tamagni_amey@asdk12.org or Alicia Woods at woods_alicia@asdk12.org.

***IMPORTANT PSP CHANGES***

At the 2016 NAEOP annual conference, the following change was brought before the 2016 Advisory Board and then the Delegates as adopted by the 2015 Governance Board:

*An applicant for a PSP certificate must have two years of educational office experience included on Form I, page 1 as part of the application qualifications. *

This will limit our TOTEM members applying to those who are currently working as Administrative Assistants, Secretaries, IEP Clericals, Braillists, Audiology Teacher Assistants, Assistive Technology Teacher Assistants, and several other classifications who are not student-based.

However, if a TOTEM member has worked in an educational office setting in his/her past inside or outside of the Anchorage School District, inclusive of colleges, universities, preschools, private schools and etc., this will be considered as the proper experience for qualification.

Recipient Recognition: Upon approval by the NAEOP Board of Directors, certificate will be mailed to recipient.  The date on the certificate will reflect the date of the filing period.  Administrator will be notified, provided recipient completes the notification form received from the PSP Registrar.

PSP Recertification

Established May 15, 2002, recertification provides the opportunity for continued recognition of professional growth. For a PSP certificate to be considered as current by NAEOP, members must recertify their highest-level PSP certificate every five years or upgrade to a higher PSP level.  Recertification applies to all PSP certificate levels, including those with the Certified Educational Office Employee (CEOE) Distinction. However, those with the CEOE distinction will be not be required to pay for the CEOE title if they already have done so. The first recertification certificates will be awarded May 15, 2007, for those certificates awarded before May 16, 2002.

Eligibility Requirements: The applicant must be an active member of NAEOP for five continuous years and complete sixty  (60) hours of continuing education (any combination of continuing education courses, workshops, or seminars).

Application Fee: The application fee of $25 must be paid by check or money order payable to NAEOP and mailed to NAEOP, 1841 S Eisenhower Ct, Wichita, KS 67209.  Application fee is mailed with Form V-Application for Recertification of PSP Certificate Level and Form VI-Continuing Education Recertification and includes the cost of enrollment fee, certificate, and notification to administrator. The fee is not refundable.
